Description
This Vanilla American Buttercream Frosting is rich, creamy, and perfect for decorating cakes, cupcakes, and cookies.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks, softened)
- 16 oz powdered sugar (1 pound, about 3.5-4 cups)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt (optional)
- 1-2 tbsp milk or heavy whipping cream (up to 1/4 cup, optional)
Instructions
- Cream the softened unsalted butter in a mixing bowl using a hand-held or stand mixer on medium-high speed for about 4-5 minutes until pale yellow.
- Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract gradually on low speed, mixing until just combined.
- Increase the mixer speed to medium and whip for an additional 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Evaluate the frosting’s consistency; if too thick, add milk or heavy cream 1 tbsp at a time until desired texture is achieved.
Notes
Ensure your butter is soft but not melted for the best texture. Sift powdered sugar before mixing to avoid grittiness.
