Description

This Vanilla American Buttercream Frosting is rich, creamy, and perfect for decorating cakes, cupcakes, and cookies.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks, softened)
  • 16 oz powdered sugar (1 pound, about 3.5-4 cups)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • 1-2 tbsp milk or heavy whipping cream (up to 1/4 cup, optional)


Instructions

  1. Cream the softened unsalted butter in a mixing bowl using a hand-held or stand mixer on medium-high speed for about 4-5 minutes until pale yellow.
  2. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract gradually on low speed, mixing until just combined.
  3. Increase the mixer speed to medium and whip for an additional 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Evaluate the frosting’s consistency; if too thick, add milk or heavy cream 1 tbsp at a time until desired texture is achieved.

Notes

Ensure your butter is soft but not melted for the best texture. Sift powdered sugar before mixing to avoid grittiness.
