Description
A delightful twist on a breakfast classic, this casserole is perfect for brunch or special occasions, featuring custard-soaked bread and juicy blueberries.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf of French bread
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
- Butter for greasing the baking dish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
- Cut the French bread into cubes and arrange them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring every piece is well coated.
- Fold in the fresh blueberries gently, being careful not to mush them.
- Cover the casserole with plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for the best flavor.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
- Serve warm, with an optional drizzle of maple syrup for extra sweetness.
Notes
Use stale bread for better absorption of the custard. Consider adding a dash of lemon zest for a refreshing flavor boost.
