Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
- Frosting (buttercream or cream cheese)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour six 8-inch round cake pans.
- Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, and then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually mix this dry mixture into the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.
- Divide the batter into six bowls, adding different food coloring to each bowl.
- Pour each colored batter into the prepared pans, ensuring even distribution.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
- Let the layers cool completely before frosting.
- Layer the cakes by spreading frosting between each layer, and coat the top and sides thoroughly.

Notes
Store leftover cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can also freeze each layer individually.
