Description
Juicy chicken breasts seared and glazed in a sticky honey-soy sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
- 2 large chicken breasts (about 1–1½ lb total), patted dry and pounded to even thickness
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- ½–1 tsp garlic powder (season to taste)
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1–2 tsp rice vinegar (optional)
- ½ tsp grated fresh ginger (optional)
- 1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp cold water (slurry)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for searing)
- 1–2 tbsp unsalted butter (to finish sauce)
- Garnish: chopped parsley or cilantro, sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prep the chicken: Pat breasts dry with paper towels. Pound them to an even thickness (about ½ inch) and season both sides.
- Make the sauce: Whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and grated ginger in a bowl; create a cornstarch slurry.
- Sear the chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with olive oil, then add chicken and sear for 4–6 minutes per side.
- Rest and reduce: Transfer chicken to a plate, cover with foil, then simmer the prepared sauce in the skillet.
- Thicken the glaze: Whisk in the cornstarch slurry and cook until sauce thickens, then mix in butter.
- Coat and rest: Return chicken to the skillet, spoon sauce over, and let rest for 3–5 minutes.
- Serve: Slice against the grain, plate with sauce, and garnish as desired.
Notes
