Description

A delicious casserole that combines the classic flavors of a Monte Cristo sandwich into a hearty dish, perfect for brunch or family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread (white or brioche recommended)
  • 4 ounces of sliced ham
  • 4 ounces of sliced turkey
  • 4 ounces of Swiss cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • Powdered sugar for serving
  • Your choice of jam for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  3. Layer half of the bread slices in the bottom of the greased dish.
  4. Top with the ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese, evenly distributing the filling.
  5. Add the remaining bread slices on top to seal in those delicious ingredients.
  6. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  7. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the layered bread and toppings.
  8. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight to let the flavors meld.
  9. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes or until the casserole is golden brown and set in the center.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, and enjoy with warm jam.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best texture, and feel free to customize with different cheeses or add vegetables.
