Description

Learn to make delightful mini baguettes with a crispy crust and soft, chewy interior, perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2¼ teaspoons) or 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water or milk (for egg wash)
  • 1 cup boiling water (for oven steam)


Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water with sugar and yeast, letting it sit until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
  2. Prepare the dough by whisking together the flour and sea salt, then adding the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until shaggy.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the risen dough, divide it into portions, and shape each into mini baguettes on a lined baking sheet.
  6. Allow the shaped loaves to rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. Brush the baguettes with egg wash, score the tops, and add boiling water to a pan in the oven for steam.
  8. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For best results, ensure the dough is kneaded well and rises adequately. You can customize with herbs or spices in the dough.
