Description

This honey garlic chicken is a quick and flavorful dish, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium if preferred)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced (or 1 tsp ground if necessary)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or other neutral oil)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Sesame seeds (optional for garnish)
  • Lime wedges (optional for serving)

Instructions

  1. Whisk the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, and cornstarch in a medium bowl until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Season the chicken pieces lightly with salt and pepper. Add them to the skillet and cook undisturbed for 2–3 minutes to get a good sear.
  3. Stir and cook another 2–4 minutes until pieces are golden and cooked through (internal temp 165°F/74°C).
  4. Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and stir to coat. Let it simmer for 1–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  5. Add a splash of water if the sauce thickens too much.
  6. Remove from heat. Garnish with sesame seeds and a squeeze of lime if desired. Serve immediately over rice, noodles, or greens.

Notes

For juicier results, swap chicken thighs and reduce cook time slightly. Use tamari for a gluten-free version. Maple syrup can replace honey for different sweetness.
