Description

A warm, crusty loaf infused with garlic, Parmesan, and fresh herbs, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh herbs, chopped (rosemary, thyme, or a mix)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Warm 1 cup of water to around 110°F (43°C). Sprinkle the sugar over the water, then add the yeast. Wait 5 minutes until it becomes foamy and smells yeasty.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together 3 cups bread flour and 1 tsp salt.
  3. Pour the activated yeast mixture, 2 tbsp olive oil, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan, minced garlic, and chopped herbs into the flour.
  4. Stir with a spoon until a shaggy dough forms. Flour a work surface lightly and turn the dough out.
  5. Knead by hand for 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky.
  6. Lightly oil a bowl. Place the dough inside and turn once to coat the surface. Cover and let rise in a warm place about 1 hour, until doubled.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) while the dough rises for the second time.
  8. Punch the dough down gently, shape into a loaf and place into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  9. Cover and let the shaped loaf rise for 30 minutes, until puffy.
  10. Bake for 25–30 minutes until the crust is golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
  11. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling before slicing.

Notes

Best served warm. Pairs well with soups and salads. Store at room temperature wrapped in a cloth for 1–2 days.
