Description

A delightful casserole with a flaky biscuit base layered with creamy egg custard and crunchy turkey bacon, perfect for brunch or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole or 2% milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for topping)
  • 4 strips turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, followed by the buttermilk, mixing until just combined.
  5. Whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and onion powder in a separate bowl until well blended.
  6. Spread half of the biscuit dough in the prepared baking dish to create an even layer.
  7. Pour the egg mixture over the biscuit layer, then sprinkle crumbled turkey bacon and remaining cheddar cheese on top.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining biscuit dough over the egg mixture, distributing it evenly.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until golden and set.

Notes

For a lighter option, use low-fat cheese or swap turkey bacon for a vegetarian alternative. Add diced vegetables for extra nutrition.
