Description

A delightful casserole transforming traditional french toast into a sumptuous brunch feast, perfect for gatherings and family weekends.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of challah or brioche bread
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for the streusel)

Instructions

  1. Begin by cutting the challah or brioche bread into cubes and placing them into a greased baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour this egg mixture over the bread cubes, gently pressing them down to soak thoroughly.
  4. In another bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, and ground cinnamon until crumbly.
  5. Spread this streusel topping evenly over the bread mixture.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 120 minutes or preferably overnight.
  7. When you’re ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Place the casserole in the oven and bake for about 60 minutes or until it’s golden brown and set in the center.
  9. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider using day-old bread and feel free to incorporate chocolate chips or nuts into the mixture.
