Description

Sticky, slightly sweet and umami-rich meatballs cooked in a hoisin-based glaze in the crockpot.

Ingredients

  • 1 (20 oz) bag frozen meatballs OR about 2 lb homemade meatballs (beef, pork, chicken, or turkey)
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (use tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Optional garnish: thinly diced green onions and toasted sesame seeds
  • Optional thickener: 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1–2 tablespoons cold water for a slurry

Instructions

  1. Add the meatballs to the crockpot in a single even layer.
  2. Whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy/tamari, honey, rice vinegar, garlic powder, and brown sugar until smooth and glossy.
  3. Pour the sauce over the meatballs and gently toss to coat.
  4. Cover and cook on HIGH for 1–2 hours or on LOW for 2–4 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. If desired, stir in a cornstarch slurry during the final minutes to thicken the glaze.
  6. Garnish with thinly sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For gluten-free, use tamari and ensure hoisin is gluten-free.
