Description
A quick and easy recipe for perfectly crispy pan-fried tofu with a flavorful soy sauce marinade.
Ingredients
- 14 oz firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Press the tofu: wrap the block in a clean kitchen towel or layers of paper towels. Place a heavy pan or a stack of plates on top and let sit for 15-20 minutes to drain excess moisture.
- Cut the pressed tofu into even cubes or rectangles — ¾ to 1-inch pieces fry most consistently.
- Place the tofu in a bowl and pour 2 tablespoons soy sauce over it. Toss gently and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon cornstarch over the marinated tofu. Toss gently to coat each piece.
- Warm 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Add tofu pieces in a single layer without crowding. Cook for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until all sides are golden and crispy.
- Transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate and season with salt and pepper while hot.
- Serve immediately for best texture.
Notes
For extra-crispy tofu, toss with a little extra cornstarch or use potato starch. Adapt soy sauce amount for lower sodium options.
