Description

A quick and flavorful dish featuring succulent shrimp simmered in a boldly spiced sauce, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup chicken or seafood stock
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)
  • Cooked white rice, grits, or crusty bread

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss the shrimp with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and cayenne (if using). Set aside to marinate.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, green bell pepper, and celery; sauté until tender, about 5-7 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Stir in tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce. Then add smoked paprika, cayenne, thyme, oregano, stock, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in fresh parsley, and serve with lemon wedges, white rice, grits, or crusty bread.

Notes

Adjust the cayenne pepper and hot sauce to taste for your spice preference. Serve with a side of rice or bread to soak up the sauce.
