Description

A delightful dish merging the sweetness of honey with the spicy kick of hot sauce, creating a flavor explosion that’s hard to resist. Perfect for gatherings or quick weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Make the hot honey sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the honey, hot sauce, butter, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Heat over medium until melted and smooth; set aside.
  2. Prep the shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Mix the flour coating: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Prepare the egg mixture: In another bowl, beat the eggs with the milk.
  5. Heat the oil: Fill a deep pan with about 2 inches of vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Coat the shrimp: Dip each shrimp into the flour mixture, shake off excess, dip into the egg mixture, and then back into the flour mixture until coated evenly.
  7. Fry the shrimp: Carefully place the shrimp in the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. Toss in hot honey: Gently toss the fried shrimp in the hot honey sauce until coated.
  9. Serve hot: Plate and enjoy immediately, with extra sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

For additional flavor, consider adding herbs to the hot honey sauce or serving over grits for a Southern twist.
