Warm, flaky croissants stuffed with melty cheese and savory ham for a delightful breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
- 6 large store-bought croissants, split horizontally
- 6–8 slices thin deli ham (about 6–8 oz / 170–225 g)
- 6–8 slices cheese (Swiss, Gruyère, or sharp cheddar)
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter, softened (optional, for spreading)
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional, for tang)
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Optional garnish: chopped chives or parsley
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Slice each croissant horizontally but keep the halves connected like a hinge.
- Spread softened butter or a thin layer of Dijon mustard inside each croissant.
- Layer a slice or two of ham inside each croissant, then add one or two slices of cheese. Season lightly with freshly ground black pepper.
- Close the croissants gently. Coat the tops with the beaten egg.
- Arrange croissants on the prepared baking sheet with space between them.
- Bake for 10–15 minutes, until golden and cheese has melted.
- Let rest for 2–3 minutes before serving.
Notes
Garnish with chopped chives or parsley for extra color. Serve with a small ramekin of mustard or pickles.
