Description

A simple, soft loaf with a light crust, perfect for sandwiches, toast, or a quick side without a long list of ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (can substitute up to half with whole wheat)
  • 1 cup warm water (about 105–115°F / 40–46°C)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, pour 1 cup warm water. Stir in 1 teaspoon sugar and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon oil to the yeast mixture.
  3. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Adjust with flour or water if too sticky or dry.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Shape the dough into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and internal temperature reaches around 190°F (88°C).
  8. Let cool before slicing.

Notes

For instant yeast, mix it directly with dry ingredients and skip the proofing. Adjust water based on flour type.
