Description

Layers of tender pasta, savory meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella make this classic lasagna a family favorite for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Fresh basil (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and lay them flat to prevent sticking.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef with chopped onion and garlic until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 5 minutes. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, oregano, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  6. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in a baking dish.
  7. Layer 4 noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, one-third of the mozzarella, and enough meat sauce to cover. Repeat for a second layer.
  8. Finish with 4 noodles, remaining meat sauce, and mozzarella on top. Sprinkle Parmesan over all.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden.
  10. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

For a lighter dish, use part-skim ricotta and mozzarella. No-boil noodles may require extra sauce to maintain moisture.
