Description
A comforting casserole featuring layers of frozen fries, a cheesy beef mixture, and melted cheddar, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (85–90% lean)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cups frozen French fries (shoestring or crinkle-cut)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cheddar cheese soup
- 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)

- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch casserole dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until browned and onions are translucent, about 6–8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, then drain excess fat.
- In a large bowl, combine beef mixture with condensed cheddar cheese soup, milk, and mustard.
- Layer half of the frozen fries in the bottom of the prepared casserole dish, followed by the beef mixture, then top with remaining fries.
- Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until fries are cooked and cheese is bubbly. Optionally broil for 1–2 minutes for extra browning.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a lighter option, substitute with turkey or plant-based crumbles and utilize vegetarian cheddar soup.
