Description
Warm, soft sandwich loaves made from pantry staples with a quick preparation time using rapid-rise yeast.
Ingredients
- 2 cups very warm water (about 105–115°F)
- 1 packet rapid-rise yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 3/4–5 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl, stir together the very warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add the vegetable oil, 2 1/4 cups of flour, and salt. Mix until the mixture comes together.
- Gradually add the remaining flour until the dough pulls cleanly from the bowl but feels slightly tacky.
- Knead for 4–5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let rise for about 20 minutes or until it nearly doubles.
- Deflate the dough, divide it in half, and shape into loaves. Place in greased 9×5-inch loaf pans.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding.
- Cool in pans for 5–10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and slice when cool.
Notes
Perfect for sandwiches, breakfasts, or as a base for savory dishes. Can replace part of the flour with whole wheat for added flavor.
