Description
Tender shredded chicken slathered in a tangy, sweet BBQ sauce—perfect for family dinners or game day gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (trim fat)
- 1 1/4 cups barbecue sauce (sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ recommended)
- 1/2 cup Italian dressing (a fat-free option works well)
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar (can reduce to 1/8 cup or omit for less sweetness)
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Liberally spray the inside of your crockpot with non-stick cooking spray or use a disposable liner for easy cleanup.
- Season the trimmed chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, then place them at the bottom of your crockpot.
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce, Italian dressing, Worcestershire sauce, and light brown sugar until well combined.
- Pour this flavorful mixture over the chicken breasts, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- Cover the crockpot and cook on high for 2.5 to 3 hours, or low for 5 to 6 hours, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Once cooked, shred the chicken in the crockpot using two forks to soak up the remaining sauce.
- Serve immediately or let it sit on warm until ready to eat.
Notes
For deeper flavor, let the chicken marinate in the BBQ sauce mixture for a few hours before cooking. Experiment with different types of BBQ sauces or add spices for extra heat.
